Countrywoman Soaps and Milk Baths
Art Vision carries Countrywoman Soap
which is made on a farm near Dell, Wisconsin, by Mary Bufton from
an old family recipe. The soap is a result of Buftons search
for a gentle soap that she could use on her sensitive skin and
reflects months of trial and error as well as consultations with
chemists and microbiologists.
A variety of rich oils,
including coconut and olive oil, are used to create a soap high
in glycerin. Glycerin has the ability to collect moisture from
the air, and therefore acts as a moisturizer for the skin. The
soap comes in a variety of fragrances including Lavender, Honey
& Sweet Almond, Peaches & Cream, Almond Meal and Creamy
Gardenia, Oatmeal, Patchouli, Tea Rose, Tea Tree, Pine, Strawberry,
Cucumber Aloe and Lemon.
Besides a moisturizing soap, Bufton wanted a safe and gentle bath preparation which would sooth the skin and lend an air of luxury to the bath. Two things came to mind: The long familiar custom of using ordinary soda and corn starch in the bath and a paragraph in an old household book suggesting milk as a great bath additive (after all, Cleopatra loved taking baths in milk). Bufton also felt that nothing could be more appropriate for the Dairyland than a MILK bath.
The end formula contains nonfat dry milk, whey, cornstarch and is enriched with Vitamin E and sweet almond oil. Choose from the original Peach scent or new Gardenia Lavender.
